The Kentucky Tradition in American Landscape Painting: From the Late 19th Century to the Present

This exhibition of 132 works provided a panorama of landscape painting by artists with Kentucky connections from 1810 to 1983. It reflected the stylistic trends prevalent during 170 years of Kentucky cultural history. Included was the earliest known landscape painting of Kentucky, “Kentucky River,” circa 1805-1812, by George Jacob Beck (1738/40-1812), on loan from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Williamsburg, Virginia.
